Patrick Bamford has been left out of Leeds United’s training camp in Spain after undergoing a groin operation.
The striker, who missed Leeds’ last three games before the World Cup break, has instead travelled to Munich for what the club described as “minor surgery”.
He is expected to return to contention in two weeks but the procedure is another set-back for a forward who has been plagued by injuries for the past 18 months.
Bamford has not completed 90 minutes of a competitive game since September 2021 and last scored a competitive goal a year ago tomorrow.
Left-back Junior Firpo is also missing from Leeds’ travelling party. Firpo has a groin problem but is expected to fly out to link up with Jesse Marsch’s squad later this week.
Goalkeepers Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson, meanwhile, have been prevented from travelling by illness.
Denmark’s Rasmus Kristensen and USA pair Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson have all been away at the World Cup and were due to take a short amount of time off after their elimination.
Leeds are spending most of next week in Spain and will play Elche in a friendly on Thursday evening.
Further friendlies against Real Sociedad and Monaco are planned at Elland Road before their Premier League season resumes against Manchester City on December 28.
