France players shake off injuries and sickness bug as all 24 players train ahead of World Cup final

France have been handed a massive boost ahead of their World Cup final against Argentina with their full complement of players training on Saturday.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Theo Hernandez were present at the Al Sadd Sports Club, where France have been based throughout the tournament, having not trained with their team-mates on Friday as they recover from respective hip and knee injuries.

Defenders Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate also returned to group training, having been previously trained away from their team-mates for an unspecified reason.

This news will come as a great relief to France fans, who have had to watch on as their side battled against a sickness that affected multiple players in the squad.

Head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano had missed out on their semi-final win over Morocco due to illness, with Kingsley Coman also suffering.

Rabiot and Upamecano returned to training on Friday, while Coman was another who trained with the group on Saturday.

Both Deschamps and captain Hugo Lloris had remained tip-lipped when asked about the health of the France squad before their Saturday training session.

“Thanks for asking about me, I’m absolutely fine,” Deschamps said when asked about his own health. “I left quite early this morning from the camp so the players were all still asleep, so I haven’t had any recent updates.

“We are trying to manage the situation as best we can, remain calm and focused. I’ll get some more information tonight and think about it, even tomorrow. Of course, we are looking forward to this important game.”

Lloris added: “I haven’t got any more news since last night because everyone was in their rooms this morning when I got up for breakfast. I haven’t seen anyone this morning. I’m sure there’ll be more information later.

“On the virus, you’re never really prepared for that type of thing but we are trying to get ready for this match as best we can.

“These are things that we weren’t necessarily prepared for, but we remain focused and are very excited about playing in a World Cup final.”

France had 24 players at training on Saturday, with Lucas Hernandez and Karim Benzema previously withdrawing from the squad due to injury.
